“Miss Peregrine’s home for Peculiar Children” Book review

Just recently finished this book, and it was one of the best books I have read in a while. I… Really don’t know what to say about this book without spoiling it, haha.A short summary of it would most likely be: A boy named Jacob who accidentally slipped into a time loop, and entered the world he didn’t believe existed. He also met the children his grandfather (Abe) has been showing him, in really queer and weird black-and-white photos of his.

In the front over is a girl named Olive, and she is one of the “Peculiar Children” that Jacob meets in this novel. There are many Peculiar children, with Peculiar… Let’s just say Talents.

One of my favourite characters in this book is Hugh Apiston, a peculiar boy with a peculiar talent of controlling bees. I’m not really sure myself why I like that character, but he’s got a little something that I admire. I even drew an image of him, you can see below.

My fanart of Hugh Apiston based off the image photograph in the book! I also have a new “My Art” page where I store my artworks!

If anyone wants to read this book, I highly recommend it for it is a great book with a great and amazing series of photographs, which go really well with the book. Although it might be a little bit creepy, for the wights (which are one of the antagonists in the book), they look like humans but have no eye pupils (and there are photographs in the book as well). But this book is a thrilling, fun and very enjoyable book to read. I’m currently reading the second book of this series; Hollow City. It’s great. The movie based off this book (as I have heard) will be coming out sometime soon, and I hope it will be as brilliant as the book.

Review of Ender’s Game

I have recently finished the book ‘Ender’s Game’ which you can find most of the information on goodreads by clicking here.

Image from Goodreads

I thought it was brilliant! My science teacher, Mr. Brian has recommended it to me (You can view his blog here, it’s pretty sweet you should check it out). I read it over a period of days, starting from last friday til this sunday (I can say I am quite a fast reader), and I will never look at the same book ever again. Ender’s Game is a really great book, although it is quite old. The cover does not seem very interesting (In fact I might say that it is quite dull, no offense to anyone), but the inside just literally blew me away. The book is pretty much about a 6 year old boy, who joins the space military to defeat these so-called aliens which humans call the “buggers”. The time in the book is obviously set in the future, with all the electronic devices and such that aren’t possible to be made today (such as anti-gravity spaceships).

I will not spoil here, the book seemed quite frustrating to read since the student named “Ender” was pushed to his limits, forced to do things he didn’t want to do. It made me feel empathy for him, and sort of stressed out. But the author knew how to balance the sad and happiness, which made the book quite enjoyable.

Overall I gave this book a five out of five on goodreads, and will be looking forward for it to become a movie soon!
